Janathon – The Analysis

31 Jan

So, Janathon is over and done with, and the final stats are as follows:

Run – 31.6 mi – 25.6 hrs
Bike – 3.0 mi – 0.2 hrs
Walk – 25.6 mi – 33.2 hrs
Skate – 0.0 mi – 18.0 hrs
Cross – 5.0 mi – 11.0 hrs
Total – 65.1 mi – 88.0 hrs

I’m quite pleased with the monthly total, and know that I have done more miles than reflected in the total figures because of my skating. I skate hard for 2 or 3 hours at derby training, and we go pretty fast. I guestimate that we probably do 6 miles for each hour of skating so if we convert the 18 hours of skating into miles that would be 108 miles (approx). Smart!

I’ve really enjoyed doing Janathon. I’m dead pleased with myself that I exercised every day of the month, even when I was off sick, and feel so much fitter as a result.

The hardest session was definitely last Saturday after I had spent the day in Sheffield, and didn’t get home until late, and then knew that I had to do my Janathon – but I did it.

Thanks Cathy and Sean and no doubt many many other folks for putting this all together, it’s been fun, and I’ll miss reading all the blogs and seeing people log their miles on runningfree, but I will be pleased to switch back to using Daily Mile, which I much prefer, and will look forward to having a day off here and there.

How long is it until June….?

Janathon – Day 31

31 Jan

Last Janathon session! I decided I had to go out with a bang. I usually do Yoga on a Monday but I hadn’t been for a run in over a week what with having the lurgy and being super busy with roller derby fun, so I decided this evening that I wanted to go for a run, so a run it was.

It was v cold out, but quiet, so I slapped on the ipod with the Archers omnibus from last week that I still hadn’t got around to listening to because I have been so busy, and trotted off for the usual 3 miles around the block – it felt pretty good too.

Janathon – Day 30

30 Jan

Three hours derby training this afternoon – I was definitely up for it after the trip to watch the team bout in Sheffield yesterday. It was a great practice with lots of focus on minimum skills, which is just what us newbies need. Muchos fun, but so sad to see some of the older skaters taking a break or leaving completely – ho hum, everything changes I guess.

Janathon – Day 29

29 Jan

Nearly there with Janathon – squeezed in a 30 minute pilates class in this evening because I have been in Sheffield all day watching my roller derby team, Middlesbrough Milk Rollers playing against the Sheffield Steel Roller Girls.
We lost unfortunately but it was a really fun day out, and the girls skated with passion and pride, and looked fantastic on the rink. I felt the score was not really representative of how well the girls played. We had three bad injuries and I think that threw everyone out a little bit, but at the end of the day the girls really tried hard, and you can’t ask for anything more than that!

Janathon – Day 28

28 Jan

I’ll upload to Runningfree later but I just got in from an evening of Swing Dancing at the DJam festival in Durham. I really enjoyed dancing the lindyhop with all the other dancers, they were a lovely friendly crowd! I’m very pleased Lisa persuaded me to go!

Rhiw in the Snow

27 Jan

Isn’t this a great picture of my parent’s dog Rhiw, which was taken during the snow in December – look at the lunatic face on her. Love it!

Janathon – Day 27

27 Jan

Starting to feel better, and plan to return to work tomorrow, but still not quite there. I did some yoga this morning because I was feeling all stiff after lying in my germ pit for the past three days. It wasn’t the most pleasant or easiest yoga practice I have ever done, but I was glad I did it because it was good to stretch out my limbs a little bit. It was particularly good for my right shoulder which was giving me pain when I woke up because I had slept funny on it – it seems to be sorted now.
